Permanent lighting in Gresham
Gresham gets the Gorge east wind and the ice storms that come with it, and the January 2024 ice storm made the case for permanent lighting better than any brochure: seasonal strands on clips took a beating all over east county, and a bonded channel has nothing for wind or ice to catch. Gresham's own building criteria assign a 135 mph design wind to the strip along the Columbia with full Gorge exposure, and ordinary winter events push 50 to 60 mph gusts into Troutdale and Gresham. The city is 1970s to 1990s subdivisions on the flats with 150 to 220 feet of roofline, the Persimmon golf community with 1990s and 2000s two-stories in an HOA, and hillside homes on Gresham Butte with long eaves and views. Older reroofs sometimes have steel drip edge, so the magnet test matters. Gresham Butte homes catch the most wind and are the strongest case for channel over clips.
