Permanent lighting in Portland
Portland's close-in neighborhoods were built between 1905 and 1940, and those craftsman bungalows, foursquares and Tudors have the most interesting rooflines we work on: dormers, multiple gables, wide bargeboards and deep eaves. They also sit two and three stories above the sidewalk in Laurelhurst, Irvington and Alameda, which is where our brighter packages earn their keep. Peacock Lane has been lighting up every December for nearly a century, December 15 through 31 last year; permanent lighting is how the rest of the city gets that look without a ladder in the rain. Homes and rooflines here
Old Portland fascia is painted wood, often with decades of paint; we scuff and clean before bonding and test a bracket first. Dormers count as small gables and add feet quickly. West Hills and Forest Heights homes on slopes often have a street-facing elevation that is mostly garage and a downhill elevation that is the show side. HOAs are rare in the close-in neighborhoods and common in Forest Heights and the newer developments.

PGE rates and what the lights cost to run
Portland General Electric's all-in residential rate is about 20 cents per kilowatt-hour after the April 2026 increase, more than double Clark Public Utilities' 8.79 cents, so the energy question comes up more here. It is still small: a 240-light D35 puck install at 0.45 watts per light on Minleon's datasheet is 108 watts at full white, roughly 13 kWh a month at four hours a night, which is about $2.50 on a PGE bill. Colored scenes use less than full white.
